Collage and acrylic painting on stretched canvas

I created this painting after a week-end trip in the beautiful Anza-Borrego desert in California, from which I came back with my head full of warm-color and wild nature-inspired images.

With Dune, I wanted to translate and share what I felt during this trip: the caress of the hot wind on the face, the beautiful warm colors, the roughness of the sand and the dryness of the soil, and eventually, the profound calmness and quietness of the environment.

Dune is soft and sensual, and at the same time offers an interesting contrast with the raw nature of the background.

Technique:

  • The background has been created with a 1st layer of bright yellow paint applied with big brush strokes, and a collage made with a selection of yellow, white, gold and earthy-tone papers, playing on transparencies and superposition effects to convey a feeling of warmth, happiness and energy.
  • The portrait has been painted with black and white acrylic paint.

​Finishing touches:

  • The painting will arrive ready to display. The sides (3/4" depth) are in continuity with the painting, as an extension of the patterns, which leaves you free to frame it or not.
  • Signature, date and painting title on the back.
  • It is sealed with a satin varnish to protect against dust and UV light.
  • All photos capture the colours and details as closely as possible, but there may be slight variances between photos and actual painting.
